South Korean Lawyer Fined for Misusing Settlement Funds

A South Korean lawyer in his 40s has been fined 10 million won (approximately $7,000) by the Cheongju District Court for misappropriating 6 million won (around $4,000) intended for police compensation settlements. The lawyer diverted the funds, which were meant for three police officers, for personal use, including investments in virtual currencies. The court highlighted the lawyer’s breach of professional ethics and the severity of the offense but took into account his admission of guilt and lack of prior criminal record when determining the sentence.
