Google, OpenAI Staff Urge AI Military Use Restrictions

Over 200 employees from Google and OpenAI have signed an open letter urging their companies to refrain from using AI technologies for domestic surveillance or autonomous weapons. The letter, reported by Axios, calls for a unified stance similar to Anthropic’s, which has refused Pentagon negotiations for such uses. The employees emphasize the need for clear “red lines” against military and surveillance applications, highlighting concerns over potential divisions being created by the Pentagon’s negotiations. Signatures for the letter can be submitted anonymously and are subject to verification.
